This is the perfect time of year to try flower pounding! We made these sweet little handmade cards for Mother’s Day, but they would be great birthday cards or thank you cards… or even just to send as a special note!

It’s helpful to test out the flowers you plan on using first, but we found that pansies and violets worked best for us.
You’ll need:
- Watercolor or cardstock paper or a sturdy blank card
- Hammer (metal or rubber mallet)
- Painter’s tape (to hold everything in place)
- Parchment paper
- Freshly picked flowers, the fresher the better
- Cutting board or something to protect your surface from dents
Begin by taping your card or paper to the cutting board or table with painter’s tape.

Remove the stems and any pollen from your flowers (the pollen will leave great big yellow blobs in the middle of your flower print).
Then, lay out your flowers on the paper, face down. Place a piece of painter’s tape over each flower to keep them from sliding around while you’re hammering.
Place a piece of parchment paper on top of the flowers and begin lightly tapping each flower, making sure to tap around the edges of each flower. You want to lightly tap.

Lastly, remove the tape and carefully scrape away any flower bits to reveal your design.
These came out so pretty, we will definitely be making more!
